Your house is an investment that you want to keep in the best shape possible. Regular maintenance is necessary to keep down expensive repairs and ensure your family's safety. 

• Check and either replace or clean furnace air filters each month during the heating season to ensure optimal performance.
• Clean humidifier two or three times during the winter season.
• Check fire and smoke detectors and ensure they are working properly.
• Check expiration date on fire extinguishers; recharge or replace if necessary.
• If you have a plumbing fixture that is not used frequently, run some water to keep water in the trap.
• Clean drains in dishwasher, sinks, bathtubs and shower stalls to prevent buildup and blockages.
• Test plumbing shut-off valves to ensure they are working and to prevent them from seizing.
• Examine windows and doors for ice accumulation or cold air leaks. If found, be sure to have them repaired or replaced.
• Check roof for ice dams or icicles which can cause major damage if left unnoticed. 
• Keep snow and ice clear of gas meters, gas appliance vents, exhaust vents and basement windows.
• Monitor outdoor vents, gas meters and chimneys for ice and snow buildup.
• Check electrical cords, plugs and outlets - if worn, or if plugs or cords feel warm to the touch, replace immediately to prevent fire.
